My Review:

Nothing can be more heart-breaking than for a child to lose a parent.  For a young girl, perhaps the worse would be losing her mother.  While losing her father would still be devastating, a mother's role in a child's life starts out in the womb and should continue the rest of the child's life.  I lost my mother at the age of nineteen.  Nineteen years old is still a child in my mind.  The devastating loss had a profound impact of me during the rest of my life.  When my own children came along, I felt it the worse because there was no one there to help me make decisions like a mother can.

While I survived, I can relate to young girls losing their mother.  Thank God there are books out there that can help the child cope.  The Daffodils Still Grow: A Book for Grieving Daughters by Sherri Elizabeth Tidwell is that book that should be on everyone's bookshelf if they have a daughter who has lost their mother.  When I requested the book for review, I had no idea it would arrive in a beautiful hardbound and colorfully illustrated copy.  It only added more value to the reading experience.

But inside, what beautiful words Ms. Tidwell has to share.  The book is dedicated to all motherless children and it opens with a child weeping beside her mother's coffin.  Ms. Tidwell's words show you what the child is going through - "Her books she read are still on the shelf.  Her shoes still sit by the door.  I remember waking up to hear her voice, but silence is all I hear anymore."  It's downright heartbreaking.  But what Ms. Tidwell does with this book is show the child that she isn't alone and that her thoughts and feelings are normal. I've never seen a more beautiful book on this touching subject in my whole life.  You will love The Daffodils Still Grow: A Book for Grieving Daughters and I give this 5 rainbows.
